Empowering Iowa for a greener future through service, education and engagement馃尡
Operated through the University of Northern Iowa's Center for Energy and Environmental Education, Green Iowa AmeriCorps is a state-wide community service program. Our program was founded in 2009 to address conservation and sustainable usage of energy resources in several Iowa communities as they struggled to rebuild from the devastating floods of 2008.
Since then, Green Iowa AmeriCorps has expanded to serve communities all across the state. Our members are placed with non-profits, school districts and government agencies to build their capacity to do environmental work in Iowa. Members have the opportunity to receive various trainings while in service with us, from energy auditing, to prescribed burn, to volunteer management training, and so much more. Members also gain experience from their host sites, working directly alongside other professionals in the field to gain valuable connections and knowledge while giving back to the community.
