Govardhan Ecovillage is a model farm community and retreat center highlighting the importance of spiritual ecology: the need for us to live in harmony with ourselves, nature and the sacred.
We're located 108 km north of Mumbai at the foothills of the Sahyadri mountains.
The modern rampant age has led to various side effects, at microscopic level in our imbalanced lifestyles and at macroscopic level affecting the ecology of the entire planet. Govardhan Eco Village(GEV) is a humble attempt to highlight the importance of living a life in harmony with nature and to create a model farm community.
‘Simple Living & High Thinking’ – a principle which is so succinct, yet profound, formed the basis of life in the bygone age of wisdom. Life in the Vedic times was focused on Service, but not on exploitation; this was the cardinal rule of living and the very essence of people’s dealings – with each other and that with Mother Nature. For demonstrating this principle, Srila Prabhupada, the founder acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), stressed on developing farm communities as they present an opportunity to lead a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
To fulfill the dream of his spiritual master, Radhanath Swami, the spiritual mentor at ISKCON Chowpatty, envisioned a farm community in India and inspired his followers to serve the society by setting up this model farm community of Govardhan Eco Village. With humble beginnings in 2003, GEV is an award winning Eco-Community spread over 70 acres at the foothills of the Sahyadri Mountains. GEV has academically researched, experimented and successfully implemented a symbiosis of scientific results from both Vedic and modern techniques. Our aim is to develop farm communities as they present a sustainable way of living a life which is socially, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and environmentally friendly. Experience a place which is a blend of Vedic wisdom and modern practicality.
