The Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet) is a pan-Canadian initiative bringing together over 150 researchers from 34 post-secondary institutions, as well as numerous industry and academic partners, to develop solutions to unmet health needs through the study of glycomics. The network builds on Canada’s international leadership in glycomics over the last 50 years.
Glycomics researchers analyze the many roles of carbohydrates (sugars) in biological processes. Glycomics-based research has the potential to lead to the development of new drugs and vaccines for conditions such as influenza, genetic diseases or diabetes.
By bringing together all key Canadian glycomics researchers, GlycoNet will deliver novel solutions to important health issues. In this rapidly growing field, the network aims to become a global destination for researchers and industry seeking solutions to problems through applied glycomics research. GlycoNet focuses on 5 research themes: antimicrobials, rare genetic diseases, diabetes and obesity, chronic disease, and therapeutic proteins and vaccines.
