Glasgow Humane Society is the oldest practical lifesaving organisation in the world. Founded in 1790, Glasgow Humane Society has been preserving life on the River Clyde and Glasgow’s waterways for over 230 years.
The society has 4 primary aims:
• The preservation of humane life in and around Glasgow’s waterways.
• The provision of Public Rescue Equipment along the River Clyde.
• The search, rescue and recovery of missing persons from water in and around Glasgow.
• Provision of safety advice and cover to organisations and local authorities.
