Hello! I’m Candice du Preez, founder of Gird Power.
In 2020, I planned to pursue full-time studies. The pandemic foiled those plans, including a new romance. The relationship ended after a few months but as I helped him build his business, I demonstrated to myself that I had what it took to start a business.
The pandemic had me stress-eating and after going shopping for sports bras, it was disappointing to find so few options available in my size.
In that moment, I resolved to create an elite activewear brand exclusively designed for buxom women in South Africa.
The word ‘gird’, I first saw in Proverbs 31:17 - ‘She girds herself with strength and shows that her arms are strong.’
The essence of the brand is about exhibiting strength and resilience. What I soon learned was that I was going to have to demonstrate this essence in the building of this brand and business.
In year one, almost everything I did failed; incurring losses so early on was a hard pill to swallow but each trial came with a valuable lesson.
In year two, I started finding the right people to help me build. To you - you know who you are - I owe you a great debt of gratitude. Even though things continued to challenge me, I stayed focused on my WHY, which is to create a fitness apparel brand where buxom women are fiercely represented, supported and advanced.
Gird Power is characterized by three distinct aspects; the push beyond quitting point, a focus on the finish line and a steely resolve.
Gird Power is about the buxom woman; it exists to celebrate, and serve her, alone. It was born from an ambition to support her in achieving the results she aspires to.
Through elite activewear, made in South Africa and designed exclusively for her fit, Gird Power commands respect for all buxom women in the sports apparel industry.
