ATEX certification of non-electrical equipment and protective systems. The certification process would typically follow three steps: 1. Pre-Assessment If you are uncertain as to whether it feasible to get your product ATEX certified, a pre-assessment would be the best place to start. We will in the pre-assessment identify the relevant ATEX requirements for your product. As a result, we will provide a list of the requirements, including requirements for testing and documentation. This will enable you to get an overview of the cost and time schedule connected with the certification process. 2. Testing and conformity assessment Conformity assessment is the main part of the certification process where we assess the product and its documentation against the requirements in the ATEX Directive and relevant harmonized standards. The result is a non-conformity list with specific items needing to be addressed before a certificate can be issued. Also, to achieve ATEX certification of a product, testing against European harmonized standards may be required. To this end, we have access to Gexcon’s own full scale test site and our engineers have extensive experience with equipment and explosion testing. In addition, as part of the assessment, test witnessing can also be done at the manufacturer’s premises or at an external lab. 3. ATEX Certification When conformity of a product to the ATEX Product Directive is documented, Gexcon Certification as a Notified Body can issue an ATEX-certificate. When approved, equipment will be marked with the ex-symbol followed by the equipment-group and category.
