The Gator Student Investment Fund (GSIF) is a student-run, long-only equity fund that manages ~$1,100,000 of capital on behalf of the University of Florida endowment. The fund is sector-neutral, is benchmarked to the S&P 500, and employs a core-plus strategy. The fund's 40+ members, organized into 8 sector teams, pitch equities to 4 student Portfolio Managers through a fundamentals and valued-oriented approach. The Portfolio Managers make final decisions on security selection and execute trades to ensure the fund’s risk is within acceptable levels.
Sectors include: Technology, Communications, Healthcare, Financials, Consumer Staples, Consumer Discretionary, Energy and Industrials.
Applications for interviews open at the beginning of each semester. If you are interested in GSIF, you can find more information at our website linked above.
By developing research reports and pitches, students in GSIF learn how to apply Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint in a professional manner and gain extensive exposure to the Bloomberg platform through the Hough Graduate School of Business Capital Markets Lab. New analysts also participate in a comprehensive eight-week training program conducted by the Portfolio Managers that teaches the Fund's investment process, which encompasses valuation methodologies commonly employed in the professional industry (e.g. Discounted Cash Flow Models and Comparable Companies Analysis).
GSIF is partnered with the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars (MFOS) program. GSIF makes annual payouts of 3% of the fund’s AUM to the MFOS program to help fund the scholarships of first generation college students.
