In close connection with the Ladin language minority and its culture, Galleria Doris Ghetta promotes the flourishing of contemporary art, the development of critical thinking and the education in art and culture through residencies and interchange between local artists and the most contemporary international art research.
Founded in 2014 by Doris Ghetta in an industrial 400sqm exhibition space in Ortisei, in 2022 the gallery welcomed a young and dedicated partner, Eleonora Castagna, and opened a second venue in Milan. This marks a new orientation for the gallery.
Three central themes of contemporary discourse form the pillar for the exploration of a long-term programme: the role of a community and its development in the landscape; the habitat with its organic and inorganic inhabitants; an imaginary that is constantly evolving and shaping both the individual and society.
The gallery has also launched a new project space called Garasc, dedicated to talented and emerging artists who are encouraged to experiment and engage with the art gallery ecosystem through the production of site-specific work.
Through the gallery activities and Biennale Gherdëina, a contemporary art festival in the Dolomites founded by Doris Ghetta in 2008, Gherdëina/Val Gardena becomes a place where artists and people connect with nature and culture to create through art a new, sustainable future.
