Faculty at AWRI have tenure-track appointments at Grand Valley State University and have expertise in research areas including aquatic ecology, fisheries ecology and management, phycology, watershed hydrology, environmental toxicology and chemistry, stream ecology, marine ecosystems, microbial ecology, molecular ecology, theoretical ecology, climate change, ecological modeling, and geospatial analytics. Graduate students at GVSU interested in pursuing an aquatic sciences emphasis within the Master of Science in Biology degree program at GVSU may do so at AWRI. AWRI provides graduate students with unique opportunities for research in aquatic sciences. Students can select a faculty member at AWRI as their major advisor or as committee members for their thesis research in the aquatic sciences. The collaborative spirit among the diverse faculty at AWRI stimulates student learning, promotes an interdisciplinary research environment, and promises a rewarding graduate experience. Additionally, a Master of Science in Water Resource Policy degree program is available and designed to provide students with a breadth and depth of knowledge relevant to issues related to water resources. AWRI hosts a number of education and outreach programs to serve a variety of audiences. Cruises on our two education and research vessels, the W.G. Jackson and the D.J. Angus, have hosted over 184,000 people. Programs in AWRI's Annis Educational Foundation classroom can be customized for all ages and highlight science at AWRI. Professional development workshops for educators are conducted in a variety of environmental education programs.
