GHOST which stands for Group of Horribly Optimistic STatisticians is a group of students interested in statistics, machine learning and data analysis. Our goal is to thoroughly learn machine learning methods and algorithms, not just to learn how to use yet another machine learning library.
The group was formed by second-year computer science students who were attending Statistical Data Analysis classes in 2017. Our tutor is Mateusz Lango and we are officially recognized as a PUT scientific circle. In the academic year 2020/2021, the group is led by Zuzanna Trafas (president) and Jędrzej Kopiszka (vice-president).
Everyone is welcome to join, though you need to get prepared first. We talk about advanced issues, that often go beyond the scope of standard university courses. To make it possible, we read additional papers (usually one or two chapters from some books) before meetings. Then, we check our understanding, discuss it, solve some exercises and... try to understand more interesting stuff!
We also invite people who would like to present some data analysis topics/projects at one of our meetings. We are open to suggestions!
