The idea of the GE Morrison Institute was born from the widely different views in the world about engaging with China. There is a cohort of China experienced executives who are the “engine room” of the Institute. It is this body that makes it different from any other organization that presents views on international business' China relationship.
The Institute can inform government, business and the wider community about the reality of doing business with and in China, with the goal of contributing to the international community’s China Intelligence (CQ) by tapping the wealth of knowledge of those with deep gritty on-the-ground experience in China.
Tapping into that experience, corporate and government strategic decision-making will be better informed, and the Institute will make a unique contribution to the national discourse at a time when calm corporate voices are going to be vital to restore balance to the relationship.
The membership is a cultural and gender diverse group and comes with an impressively wide range of industry experience and from some of the world’s most prominent companies.
Some of these the Institute’s activities, services and projects will include:
• Leadership of the community dialogue in Australia on matters relating to China through contributions to media, conferences etc.
• Provide a well-credentialed pool of China savvy board directors and advisors
• Boardroom and senior executive briefings with delegations from the membership in China from select industries
• Design and lead visits to China of board and senior executive delegations
• Conduct business targeted research, for wide distribution as well as company specific
• Develop a China Intelligence (CQ) Index that identifies corporate strengths and weakness in an organization
• Connect with influencers of China policy through Chinese business relationships, associations and think tanks
• Collaborate with government agencies in Australia and China
