Future Living Studio (FLS) is a temporary design studio that started in Vietnam, and is now in its fourth edition in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. FLS is working within the EU-funded, SPIN Project to improve Vietnam and Cambodia's global participation in sustainable product design. We work to integrate Vietnamese, Cambodian, European and North American design through a cross-cultural collaborative 3 month project that tackles the growing issues of sustainability.
The project joins three local designers, three international designers and three local manufacturers to collaboratively produce environmentally and socially conscious products. The project works to bridge the gap between design and production - involving the designers and producers in every step of the process from extensive user research to co-design with factory workers.
The project was conceived as a lab - where each designer, with their individual expertise ranging from advertising to user experience to handicrafts, share and explore the possibilities of sustainable design in Vietnam and Cambodia. The project intends to shed light on the importance of holistic and socially consciously designed products in the wake of rapid development.
