Founded in 1976, Frisbie Senior Center is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of older adults and their families. Located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, our facility encompasses more than 20,000 square feet of ADA accessible space, which can be tailored to specific programming. Frisbie is a drop-in activity and wellness center tailored to the needs of people over 50 years of age. We provide innovative recreational programming based on a holistic model that incorporates physical fitness, intellectual stimulation and emotional wellbeing.
Daily users take advantage of more than 65 different activities, classes and health services. We also serve as a local resource hub connecting individuals in need to vital services and benefits. Inclusivity is a core value embraced by the staff at Frisbie Senior Center; all health initiatives and social services are free to the public, regardless of age or residency.
Educational programming is one of the keystones of Frisbie Senior Center. We employ a wide variety of instructors and field experts who provide classes and seminars designed to engage a diverse population. Examples include art instruction, the importance of maintaining balance, recognizing the signs of diabetes, aging in place and many others. Frisbie features a popular monthly “Lunch & Learn” seminar that addresses trending issues relevant to an aging population. Recent seminars have addressed: fall prevention; the MIND diet; medical cannabis; designating powers of attorney; and the “what and why” of hospice. Additionally, we offer classes on identity theft, social security scams, and safeguarding Medicare information.
