Founded in 2002, the Friends of the Rainforest (sometimes written as Friend of the Children's Eternal Rainforest, FCER, or FOTR) is a non-profit organization created to promote a sustainable world by inspiring kids and adults to take action to protect, support and expand the Children’s Eternal Rainforest. Located in Monteverde, Costa Rica, the Children's Eternal Rainforest is the largest private reserve in Central America.
FCER consists of scientists, conservationists, teachers, students and nature lovers who are dedicated to supporting, protecting and expanding the 55,000 acre Children’s Eternal Rainforest – a place regarded by conservation experts as one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. The organization was formed to support the work and programs of the Monteverde Conservation League, and raise awareness about conservations issues relevant to rainforest habitats.
Originally, the forest was created through children worldwide raising money to preserve the rainforest.
