First Community Housing (FCH) is a nonprofit affordable housing developer building high-quality, sustainable housing for those who earn 20-60% of the San Francisco Bay Area’s median income. Since 1986, FCH has created housing for more than 3,000 low-income residents in 18 affordable housing developments throughout the region. The low-income populations we serve include families, senior citizens, and individuals as well as special needs populations such as the chronically ill, the developmentally disabled, and consumers of mental health services.
FCH utilizes the latest energy-saving, sustainable, green-building features to create a healthy living environment, save money for our tenants through lower energy bills, and minimize the impact of our developments on the natural environment. We provide tenants with free annual transit passes (“Eco-Passes”) for transportation on all light rail and buses throughout the county, saving tenants an average of $700/year, while reducing car usage. FCH is recognized by the US Green Building Council, The Home Depot Foundation, and many other national and local organizations as a national pioneer in green building.
We provide enhanced on-site resident services which are customized to the needs of tenants and include:
• Financial literacy and first-time homebuyer courses
• Computer training classes
• English as Second Language classes
• Health, fitness, and nutrition programs
• College app asstistance
