First Chapter is a new 501(c)(3) organization that works with families to build a foundation of language and literacy from birth. We envision a world where every child, regardless of their parents’ income or primary language, has an equal chance at school success!
First Chapter was created to respond to the achievement gap crisis. Children from low-income families hear 30 million fewer words by age 3 than those from high-income homes. These children are less prepared for school and tend to lag behind their entire school careers.
To combat this achievement gap, First Chapter has developed a variety of programs designed to enable a family to be their child’s first teacher and to enrich the quality and quantity of words their child hears from birth.
