Fig Tree Foundation supports Calgary-based organizations that work in international development. We do this by providing funding options through grants and loans and by providing networking and learning opportunities. We also raise public awareness about international development by hosting events and sharing information.
Fig Tree Foundation was established in 2005 by a group of concerned Calgarians that had a desire to contribute to international development initiatives. Since then we have provided more than $420,000 in funding and supported projects in 14 different countries. Previously funded project areas include: gender equality, health, education, training, renewable energy, microfinance, reforestation, agriculture, water and sanitation, and small business development. We have established a thorough evaluation process to ensure projects we fund are sustainable, supported by the local community and will have a lasting beneficial impact.
We are currently working on a social enterprise grant so organizations can pilot social enterprise ideas.
