The Federation for Environment, Climate, and Technology (FECT) comprises institutions that work to develop usable social scientific and technological information for societal welfare and ecological protection. The constituent organization, Foundation for Environment, Climate and Technology, was formed to carry out the work that followed a collaborative project between Columbia University in New York and the Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka to Seasonal Climate Predictions for Water Management in Sri Lanka in 2000. Since then FECT has collaborated with almost all the national Universities, national research Institutes, private sector organizations, civil society organizations and relevant government departments and ministries and local government. The domain of work has extended to Environment, Public Health, Disaster Risk, Since 2008, FECT work extended to the Maldive Islands, where
A sister organization called FECT-Maldives was set up with an independent board. We have initiated work in Comoros, Chagos and Zanzibar to extend our work to Indian Ocean Islands.
