The Faculty of Sciences (Ciências) is part of the Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa), the largest and most prestigious Portuguese University, ranked among the 150 best universities in the world in the area of Natural Sciences and Technology. Ciências, covers a wide range of the key scientific areas, providing its students with high-quality infrastructures, which include 134 teaching laboratories and 184 research laboratories in its 10 departments and 19 research and development units (more than 90% of which are rated as Excellent).
More than 5000 students and about 500 faculty and researchers produce over 1000 scientific papers per year. Over 500 collaboration protocols with Portuguese and foreign institutions and national and international projects for research and development, education and training allow Ciências to train highly qualified professionals for the global market. Ciências also generates knowledge and technology that lead to the creation of 15 Start Up's and 4 Spin Off's during the last 10 years. Ciências now hosts in its Campus more than 30 companies. Over 70% of Ciências graduates take less than one year after graduation to find a job in the global market.
