Facing Faces Institute

Born from the historical context of the World War I and the presence of the wounded veterans with facial injuries, maxillofacial surgery appeared and evolved progressively from the first transplants of living tissue to the first human partial face transplantation, which was performed for the first time at the CHU Amiens Picardie in 2005. Raised from this strong historical context, the Institut Faire Faces (IFF) was created on October 12th, 2009 under the impetus of Professors Bernard Devauchelle and Sylvie Testelin, in the form of an association by the law of July 1st, 1901, and constitutes one of the first study and research centre dedicated to disfigurement. In order to meet societal needs, the Institut Faire Faces gathers human and material resources to: • Gather around a high technical platform, researchers, hospital practitioners, philosophers, and engineers to re-invent reconstructive and regenerative head and neck surgery, • Communicate and inform the general audience to move forward the image of disfigurement, • Build and strengthen a local, national and European research network, • Organize seminars, workshops and other educational trainings to meet its vocation of teaching and transmission, • Collect, mobilize and manage funds to finance the means of action necessary to achieve its objectives. Through this multidisciplinary and transversal approach, the IFF produces scientific, clinical and social results allowing a personalized treatment for each patient by renewing current and standard medical practices.
