Ex Cathedra believes singing together can transform lives and turn individuals into communities.
From its home in Birmingham, it has established an international reputation as a leading UK choir and Early Music ensemble. Under founder and Artistic Director Jeffrey Skidmore, it is known for its vibrant performances and a passion for seeking out not only the best but the unfamiliar and the unexpected in the choral repertoire, and for nurturing talented young singers.
Ex Cathedra presents a season of concerts in Birmingham, across the Midlands and London, and have performed as far afield as New York and Tel Aviv. It has made over 20 critically-acclaimed CDs.
Education and participation projects are at the heart of our work. Singing Playgrounds has reached over 900 schools across the UK - and as far afield as China, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand - training children to share, lead, create and adapt singing games for their peers in their school playgrounds.
In the field of arts and health, Ex Cathedra's Singing Medicine project engages children, bedside, on every ward at Birmingham Children's Hospital every week. Singing Pathways regularly sees recovering stroke patients who cannot speak, sing.
