The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre is a public university offering higher education in all major fields of music and dramatic arts at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels.
Bachelor’s degree programmes in music provide training for vocalists and instrumentalists, as well as conductors, composers, musicologists, music teachers and sound engineers. Master’s degree programmes offer additional education and training in chamber music, accompaniment, early music, contemporary improvisation and cultural management. The curricula for performing musicians focus on solo, ensemble and orchestral performance as well as opera. Courses in music theory, history and the humanities and teacher training are also offered.
The EAMT’s Drama Department prepares actors, directors and playwrights for active careers in the modern world. The international MA in contemporary physical performance making (CPPM) is an advanced training course for professional performers and theatre makers from all disciplines who wish to develop, rethink and challenge their artistic processes and creative practices.
A two-year joint master’s programme in contemporary performance and composition (CoPeCo) is also offered through a consortium of schools that includes the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Dance in Lyon and the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre.
The doctoral programme awards PhD degrees in musicology and in music and dramatic art.
In 2019, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre was for the first time included in the QS World University Ranking, which is one of the top international ranking systems measuring the popularity and performance of universities from all over the world. Being the only music university from Baltic states on the QS list, EAMT is currently sharing position 51-100 in the category of performing arts.
