Emissa is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-religious organization, founded and established in the Syrian city of Homs, where the organization’s name originates: Emissa is the historical name for Homs. Emissa was formed in 2012 by a Syrian grassroots group of volunteers from different ethnical and educational backgrounds, intending to address the needs of their fellow citizens resulting from the Syrian crisis.
From the beginning up to the present day, our goal is to support civilians in war and crisis, in particular those most vulnerable, in order to relieve their suffering and strengthen their resilience to help them overcome the crisis.
By empowering communities throughout our different programs, we aim to contribute to an environment where civilians affected by war can gain back some of their dignity and rights. Our expertise encompasses youth and community empowerment, humanitarian assistance and stabilization activities. Emissa currently operates in besieged and hard to reach areas of Syria and our activities and projects are implemented under six programs:
1. Food Security and Livelihood (livestock & agriculture projects, micro grants, income generating activities, and vocational training).
2. Education and Community Empowerment (formal and non-formal education, PSS, risk education, health awareness, life skills and citizenship activities).
3. Health (primary and secondary healthcare, physiotherapy).
4. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (waste management, rehabilitation activities, hygiene kits).
5. Shelter and Non-Food Items (camp establishment, rehabilitation activities).
6. Emergency and Relief (NFI, food kits, winterization, shelter).
