Egualia (formerly Assogenerici) is the Italian Federation of Industries for Accessible Medicines which today represents more than fifty companies, over 95% of the companies producing generic, biosimilar and value-added medicines. Founded in 1993, it is a member of the European association of the sector, Medicines for Europe, and welcomes multinational and Italian companies present throughout the territory, which produce both for the domestic and foreign markets, as well as companies engaged in the production of drugs on behalf of third parties for the entire pharmaceutical industry. Generics and biosimilars cover 80% of therapeutic areas and represent over 60% of all drugs dispensed in Europe. For decades they have enabled the expansion of access to therapies for diseases with the highest incidence in the population and for serious or rare diseases, reducing potential inequalities in healthcare and improving the health conditions of millions of patients.
