Welcome to the Edward Thomas Collection, founded in 1982 by Edward and Thomas Slatkin, who follow in the footsteps of two previous generations of proud family hoteliers and continue to develop and redefine the role of successful ownership and operation of luxury hotels.
The most famous example of ETC's vision is Shutters on the Beach Hotel, Santa Monica. It began as abandoned, foreclosed property perched on a dicey stretch of Santa Monica beach, in the shadows of the Santa Monica pier. Purchased in 1991, ETC set out to recapture the tradition and elegance of America's historic beach resorts from the 20's and 30's and in the process completely reinvigorated a stretch of Santa Monica that now attracts more tourists and business travelers that even before.
ETC's commitment to the beautification of Santa Monica continued with meticulous renovation of Hotel Casa del Mar, Shutters' neighboring historic landmark building. Originally built in 1926, ETC's glorious 1999 renovation redefined the space with 129 elegant guest rooms and suites, including three magnificent two-stored penthouses. This "Grand Dame" of the Santa Monica shores evokes the mood and style of both the Italian and French Riviera. Together, Shutters on the Beach and Hotel Casa del Mar have forever changed the upscale hospitality landscape of Santa Monica.
