Eastgate Publishing

Eastgate Publishing Corporation is the official publisher of Mabuhay, Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) award-winning travel and lifestyle magazine. In the past, it was published by a Singaporean firm. But that changed during a lunch meeting between then-PAL president Dante Santos and the late multi-awarded veteran journalist Max V. Soliven. Mr. Soliven commented on why PAL allowed foreigners to publish Mabuhay when we Filipinos know our country better. Realizing the truth in Mr. Soliven’s comment, Mr. Santos requested him to submit a proposal to publish the magazine. Together with friends, Mr. Soliven and Editor-in-Chief/President Simeon S. Ventura,Jr. organized Eastgate Publishing Corporation and took over Mabuhay. The first issue under Eastgate was in May 1988, with the cover done by internationally-acclaimed Filipino artist Manny Baldemor. In more than 20 years under Eastgate, Mabuhay has won 18 various local and international awards, vindicating one man’s belief in Filipino creative talent.
