The EMDC is one of the biggest opportunities to “level-up” the Midlands.
The coalition of councils behind the proposed East Midlands Development Company wants to promote and enable three major development zones which respond to key government agendas.
The zones include the East Midlands Freeport area and emerging plans to turn land near one of the UK’s last coal-fired power stations into a centre for net zero technologies.
Collectively the size of three London Olympic Parks, the zones have the capacity to add 84,000 jobs and more than £4.8 bn in value to the regional economy over the next 25 years.
East Midlands Airport area: which supports the region’s status as a centre for advanced manufacturing & research, and is a national and international logistics gateway siting at the heart of the new Freeport zone
Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station site: transforming part of the site of one of the UK’s last coal-fired power stations into a national centre for carbon zero technologies and manufacturing innovation which is also within the Freeport area.
Toton & Chetwynd: creating a new, connected community.
