EMPOWERink Canada is a new organization and the first of its kind in Canada. The mission, connecting breast cancer survivors, previvors and thrivers with tattoo artists who provide complimentary mastectomy tattoos.
EMPOWERink gives women the opportunity to define beauty on their terms. This is often the first time that these women are in full control of their bodies post mastectomy. We want them to look in the mirror and see a new beginning and find a sense of healing and peace.
Karen Malkin Lazarovitz, creator of EMPOWERink got her start 7 years ago when she teamed up with an American organization called Personal Ink. This year she decided to go start her own initiative in Canada. This October there are three locations throughout Canada. Montreal, Oshawa, and Quebec City. There will be 18 recipients receiving tattoos.
Looking in the mirror post mastectomy can feel traumatizing for so many women, especially when media promotes an unrealistic ideal of what beauty should look like. These tattoo days are a day of pampering for these women. It is a catered event with lots of extras and wouldn’t be possible without funding. The artists are generously donating their time and talent however we need funds to make this day extra special.
The goal of this program is to expand and host EmpowerINK days in every province throughout Canada.
All proceeds from this program will continue to support EmpowerINK and metastatic breast cancer research initiatives led by Dr. Sarkis Meterissian at the McGill University Health Centre Foundation (MUHC).
EMPOWERink is a program of Pink in the City.
