Improv improves us! From easing social anxiety to building trust, the mental health benefits of improv are undeniable for everyone, let alone those facing difficult times. Drama Club consistently cares for NYC youth —especially those who are incarcerated and court involved— by making space for them to experience its transformational magic.
Drama Club got its start bringing improv classes into New York City correctional facilities and has since expanded to reach incarceration impacted communities across the city. We facilitate weekly workshops for youth between the ages of 12 to 24, creating a fun and safe space that fosters leadership in collaborative problem solving, teamwork, communication and decision making. Youth who participate in our club use improv as their guide to access agency, explore possibility, express themselves, process challenges and discover different paths beyond court involvement. Love and respect remain present through hardships and celebrations alike.
Ultimately, Drama Club is “a space to do you, a space to be you.” Its purpose is to make room for youth to be seen and heard on their own terms, and at the heart of our mission lives the belief that we all stand to learn something from one another. The doors of this mobile drama club are open weekly and it is truly a place where good things happen. We welcome you to join our family.
