Dodo is an environmental membership organisation (founded in 1995) headquartered in Helsinki, Finland. Its overall aim is to create environmentally, socially and economically sustainable happiness and wellbeing in cities by planting seeds for urban and global change. Dodo prepares the ground for large-scale societal transformation through experiments, insightful trainings and network creation. This approach is applied also in the recently launched enviromental development pilot project Tesito that is implemented in Gambia (West Africa, in 2021-2022) and funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The forest conservation project aims to promote sustainable use of forests in Gambia. The aim will be achieved through these actions: (1) train local authorities, civil society and communities to conserve forests, (2) create a sustainable model for forest restoration together with a local community Jiffarong, and (3) reduce pressure on forest by enhancing wildfire prevention together with Gambia's Department of Forestry and creating new sustainable and profitable livelihoods that substitute less sustainable. Tesito is continuation to Dodo's previous development projects in Mali (2001-2015) and Madagascar (2007-2015).
