The Digital News Academy, a partnership between News Corp Australia and Google and delivered by Melbourne Business School, is a world’s first program to train working journalists in digital skills. The Academy's nine-month program includes mobile journalism, multi-channel and vertical storytelling, statistics, verification, the business of storytelling and data journalism.
Learners have represented more than 25 newsgroups across Australia including rural, regional, hyperlocal, metropolitan, national newsrooms, as well as culturally and linguistically diverse publications.
The Academy, led by Campbell Reid and Sonja Heydeman, has received global recognition, taking top honours in the 2022 CLO Learning in Practice Awards for Excellence in Academic Partnership. It was also a finalist in the University of Melbourne Faculty of Business and Economics & Melbourne Business School Deans' Diversity and Inclusion Excellence Awards.
