Treat Yourself. Help Others. Make a Difference.
Our delicious products are more than just a joy to your taste buds. All profits go to the charities of SAY Detroit (www.saydetroit.org), formed in 2006, to work in our city's neighborhoods, provide opportunities where there were none, and lift our neediest when they stumble. From infants to seniors, SAY Detroit helps. In purchasing this product, you do, too. Thank you.
Created by SAY Detroit founder Mitch Albom, the Detroit Water Ice Factory is a non-profit dessert store in downtown Detroit. The store follows the “Newman’s Own’’ model of philanthropy, offering delicious frozen dessert, gourmet popcorn, and other products with the sole goal of raising funds to help others. Many servers are members of partner youth programs.
Detroit Water Ice launched its line of gourmet popcorn—Brown Bag Popcorn—with a special Halloween giveaway in 2017. By the spring of 2018, Brown Bag Popcorn expanded into a full-fledged sister brand of DWIF, partnering with Plum Market to sell its bags in their Ann Arbor, Bloomfield, West Bloomfield, and Detroit Metro Airport stores. Later that November, a popup at The Somerset Collection’s North Food Court (Level 3) through the holidays showed showed that there is a taste for gourmet popcorn in metro Detroit.
In September 2019, Brown Bag Popcorn celebrated the Grand Opening of its very own retail store in The Somerset Collection (North, Level 3).
“We are here to create jobs, raise funds, do good – and eat ourselves silly with the coolest dessert ever.” - Mitch Albom
