The Desautels Sustainability Network is a club for students at McGill’s Desautels Faculty of Management interested in promoting a culture of sustainable action within McGill University as well as in Montreal’s community.
We are a group of passionate students, ambitious and driven by sustainability challenges – we embody the changes we promote. We aim to create a positive social and environmental impact by building a strong community around sustainable business in order to inspire strategic change through entrepreneurial initiatives. We see sustainability as a crucial and profitable opportunity for businesses.
The club is structured around 4 types of events:
Desautels Business Conference on Sustainability
DBCS is an annual conference held in January that gathers experts and Montréal students to discuss the benefits of sustainability in multidisciplinary forums and various business fields. The essence of DBCS is to explore the impacts and opportunities of sustainability in business.
Community Building Events
Designed to promote collaboration and sustainable innovation through community initiatives, these events enable Desautels students to work together with students from other Montreal universities dedicated to social and environmental issues. In doing so, students and young professionals work together to foster an innovative community striving towards sustainable action. Events include wine and cheese nights where students interested in sustainable business ideas will have the opportunity to meet and engage with leaders of positive change.
Formal Networking Events
These events offer students the opportunity to explore future career paths, build their network connections with professionals, and gain new perspectives and ideas on sustainability in business. These formal networking events include an academic advising night, a start-up fair, and a mentorship session.
Seminars
Which focus on bringing professionals from different industries to explain sustainability opportunities relevant in today’s fast-paced business industries. This gives students the opportunity to explore topics through discussion and provides them with a platform to share and contribute ideas. Seminars are held regularly throughout the year: upcoming seminars for the year of 2018-2019 include sustainable finance and marketing sustainability.
