Floating atop the landmark Meier & Frank Building on the 15th floor of downtown Portland’s Nines Hotel, Departure Restaurant features modern, accessible Asian cuisine using traditional techniques from the Far East created by renowned chef Gregory Gourdet. The menu captivates diners with its masterful remix of authentic coastal cuisine – from street food-style starters and contemporary classics to kushiyaki specialties and market-fresh sushi - embracing the bounty of the Pacific Northwest yet delivering the fiery flavors of the Far East. In a space with design as daring as its cuisine, Departure is Portland’s one-of-a-kind, sky-high retreat for quick bites, leisurely dining, or an evening of killer cocktails.
Guests are whisked to the 15th floor rooftop of the Nines Hotel and immediately enter through the “barnacle” low ceiling entrance to the main dining room, an intimate space with a teak-clad bar situated below a 65-foot long windshield skylight. A wooden “smokestack”-shaped structure juts above the bar and makes a subtle reference to the ocean liner motif while a nautical mural of fantasy islands wraps around the main dining room. The bar is the epicenter of the main space with dining room booths facing inward in an area defined by marine teak decking, sailcloth panels and helm bar seating. Outside, two open patios invite guests to relax and view the urban horizon with panoramic views high above the city center.
