Psychology is the scientific study of all aspects of human behavior. Psychologists are interested in better understanding sensation, perception, cognition, emotion, personality, human development &abnormal behavior. The undergraduate program balances theory & application to provide students with the basic knowledge &research methods required in the study of psychology, & a strong foundation for public service & further studies in psychology & other disciplines. The cross-cultural orientation of the Department's teaching & research provides students with an international perspective for their future career development in a global setting.
Psychology is closely related to other subject areas that involve the study of human behaviour, & students who are familiar with psychology will find it easy to pick up these other subject areas.
Our undergraduate curriculum is comprehensive, offering more than 40 courses in various research areas. In addition to basic courses, such as General Psychology & Introduction to Statistics & Research Methods, the following five areas of concentrations are available:
- Cognitive Science: Study of memory, cognition, language, & human intelligence, & their neural underpinnings
- Education & Human Development: Psychology of personal growth, educational psychology, &the psychology of child, adolescence & adults from a developmental perspective
- Social & Industrial-Organisational Psychology: Social, cross-cultural, & industrial & organisational psychology
- Clinical & Health Psychology: Abnormal & health psychology, neuropsychology
- Training in Guided Self-Help for Low Intensity Psychological Interventions: Application of evidence-based psychological principles in the treatment of common mental disorders
