About
Dengie is the UK’s leading manufacturer of fibre-based horse feeds and the largest producer of alfalfa, a leafy, green crop full of naturally occurring vitamins and minerals. Dengie was named the UK’s most popular branded feed in the 2015 National Equestrian Survey commissioned by the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA).
Alfalfa is grown in Essex and Lincolnshire within 10 miles of Dengie’s two harvesting and processing sites, and plays a key role in its portfolio of popular fibre formulations, including the Alfa-A and Hi-Fi ranges. The hardy crop provides welcome ground cover for birds, insects and other wildlife during the winter months.
Founded in 1968 as a farmers’ cooperative, the company now holds a royal warrant and is still run under a cooperative ethos with strong local community links.
