Framed by lush olive groves and the ancient medina walls, Dar Roumana is a "must" for visitors to the medina of Fez. Five casually elegant suites surround a intricately tiled and plastered interior courtyard, complete with sunken fountain and resident tortoise. At night, the courtyard transforms into our intimate restaurant, where Chef Younes serves a seasonal menu of Moroccan-Mediterranean cuisine.
Created in 2002 by the (then) young entrepreneur, Jen Smith, Dar Roumana is one of the longest-running and most popular riads in the medina. In 2017, Dar Roumana updated its look to celebrate over a decade of operation and ring in the new decade with a fresh look to match the new management team. We are excited to announce, that while Jen remains involved in operations, Dar Roumana is now managed by our exclusively Moroccan team, many of whom have been part of the Dar team for over 10 years!
We invite you to relax with a book on the sun-drenched roof terrace with spectacular views over the entire medina, sample one of Younes' signature dishes (perhaps the bitter chocolate tart with pear sorbet), cuddle up next to the fire with a book and a glass of Moroccan wine or Simo's velvety whiskey sour, or simply hide away in your spacious room. There is a saying about living in Fes: "You either need a good book or a good lover." We do have a small library if you find yourself short of the one... but you're on your own for the other.
