Dale Coyne Racing is based in Plainfield, IL, about 40 miles southwest of downtown Chicago. The team has participated in every season of Champ Car/IndyCar racing since 1984, making this their 36th season of competition.
Team owner Dale Coyne is a true racer with a long history in racing. As an Indy car driver for five years, and a team owner for more than 30 years, he is amongst the most experienced team owners in the series and highly respected by his peers.
Coyne is known for taking on young drivers and mentoring them in the early stages of their careers. His ability to help and coach drivers has paid dividends to the drivers who have competed with his seasoned team.
In July 2009, DCR celebrated its first win with the late, great Justin Wilson at Watkins Glen. Wilson would also win at Texas Motor Speedway in 2012 and would give the team its best championship finish, placing sixth in the standings in 2013.
The team earned its third INDYCAR win with a victory at the Indy Duel in Detroit Race 1 in 2013, where they finished with both cars on the podium, and picked up its fourth win when the #18 car visited victory lane at the first race in Houston in 2014. The team kicked off its 2017 season by picking up its fifth win on the streets of St. Petersburg with Sebastien Bourdais and repeated the exploit the following season, once again with Bourdais, in 2018. For the 2019 season the team is running veteran Sebastien Bourdais and rookie Santino Ferrucci.
