I have interviewed and hired or placed hundreds of sales people over my career and the key has been to understand the goals and culture of the organization and what they would consider a good fit, as well as the experience, motivation of the sales rep. At startup and mid-sized companies, it can be tricky to find the right candidate that understands the market you are going after and is able to get up to speed quickly.
