The Galán School for the Development of Democracy (EG) is a non-profit, mixed character, legally registered organization. It is financed through the management of national and international resources, both public and private, for the development of training initiatives in democratic values and practices with vulnerable populations (primarily with the youth) and the participation of other relevant actors and agents for the promotion of democratic governance in Colombia.
The Galán school divides its efforts with institutional operation at the national, regional, and local levels in the interest of strengthening its role in the creation of the social fabric of the country. All of the Galán School’s projects are conducted with the participation of local groups, generating opportunities for the continuity and sustainability of the processes as well as local ownership of the methodologies employed.
EG’s legal license, granted by the Education Secretary of Bogotá, empowers the organization to develop non formal educational processes. The State Council recently established education powers in these fields for “job training” and “human development education”, both of which the ILCG (the institutional predecessor to the Galán School) as well as EG are focused on.
