Cornerstones is a Santa Fe, New Mexico based nonprofit which for over 25 years has worked in communities to restore historic adobe, stone and log buildings. We work on some of the oldest buildings in the Unites States. We train youth and provide educational adobe curriculum to children from ages 3-18 years of age as part of our outreach, youth training and community development work. Each year we teach over 5,000 children about why adobe is a key building material in New Mexico, the cultural roots of the process while they learn about the math and science required to create adobe bricks. Much of our training is hands-on and allows the child to explore their abilities with basic materials, measure, and form or create adobe bricks. Also, in many cases we teach how to construct a structure with older children.
