Connect, Support and Enable Internationals to Adapt and Thrive
Established in 1998, Community Center Shanghai (CCS) is a not-for-profit LLC. Today, its three centers in Pudong, Hongqiao and Minhang serve the international community through orientations, charities, counseling, classes, tours and events. Its purpose is to support individuals and families from the moment they arrive, providing them tools to adapt, a forum to connect, and opportunities to culturally immerse themselves.
Shanghai 123. A free half-day newcomer orientation showcasing non-partisan, expert volunteers who talk about common challenges, answer questions and provide practical resources and tips. A light breakfast, lunch and daycare is provided.
Charities. CharityLINK is a platform that allows charities to share information and resources. Giving Tree connects expats and their companies to local migrant children who are shown the importance of giving and being charitable. River of Hearts redistributes clothing, toys, and other gently used items to people who need them.
Counseling. CCS employs a dozen certified professional counselors who help expats and their families address the mental and emotional challenges that can be associated with life in Shanghai. CCS counselors currently comprise more than half of the Shanghai International Mental Health Association (SIMHA) board.
Classes and Tours. CCS offers a variety of classes and tours such as: language, cooking, hobby, children programs, exploring China opportunities, etc. They encourage the international community to educate itself about the surroundings, meet people, pursue a hobby or share a talent and love of teaching.
Events. Our events create connections and help foster a greater sense of community. We have a diverse offering of events including fun runs, bazaars designed to bring the community together and to promote and raise funds for CCS and its charitable activities.
