The Colorado Senate consists of thirty-five Senators, who are elected to four-year terms. Each Senator is limited to serving two consecutive four-year terms. The President of the Senate is elected by the members of the Senate and is the presiding officer. The Senate meets every year in regular session beginning no later than the second Wednesday in January. Regular session lasts no longer than one hundred twenty calendar days.
The Colorado Senate staff includes nonpartisan and partisan employees. The Senate Services staff is nonpartisan and serves all members of the Senate. Additionally, each caucus has its own partisan staff. Staff positions range from full-time, year-round to session-only seasonal jobs.
