Coastguard New Zealand is a registered charity providing the primary marine search and rescue service in New Zealand.
Our missions are led by professionally-trained volunteers, operating out of 60+ strategically-positioned units around New Zealand's coast and on major lakes and waterways. Our volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Coastguard New Zealand is a registered charity (Royal New Zealand Coastguard Incorporated, CC36138). We rely on public donations and sponsorship to help provide training and equipment for our volunteers.
Coastguard also provides boating education, promotes water safety, has a marine VHF communications network and runs a NowCasting Service, providing up to date tide and wind information.
