Duncan is located on the southern half of Vancouver Island, in the heart of the Cowichan Valley - the traditional lands of the Quw’utsun (Cowichan) First Nation on Vancouver Island.
Located between the provincial capitol of Victoria and the City of Nanaimo, Duncan is home to a population of approximately 5,000 residents and serves as an economic hub for the Cowichan Region, which has a population of approximately 80,000.
Duncan provides healthcare, retail services, professional services, and cultural tourism to the growing Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Duncan is a major business centre for the key industries of the regional economy: fishing, farming, forestry, and tourism. The City of Duncan is a member of the CVRD, a regional government of both electoral areas and member municipalities. Along with the City of Duncan, the CVRD is composed of the municipalities of North Cowichan, Ladysmith, and Lake Cowichan.
