In December 2015, H.E. Xi Jinping, President of China held a meeting with H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces in Beijing. In order to enhance the practical cooperation between China and the UAE, a number of Agreements have been signed at the meeting, including the launch of China-UAE Industrial Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Zone (ICCDZ) that is led by China National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
In October 2016, after thoroughly evaluating the standard of industrial development, the current status of industrial parks and the result of international production capacity cooperation among all provinces in China, NDRC has appointed Jiangsu as the leading province for the industrial capacity cooperation between China and the UAE, and the preparation work of ICCDZ was officially started.
On May 26, 2017, Jiangsu Overseas Cooperation and Investment Company (JOCIC) is established, and mainly responsible for the investment, development, operation and management of ICCDZ.
ICCDZ is located in Khalifa Industrial Zone (KIZAD), Abu Dhabi, and about 4km away from Khalifa Port, one of the world's most advanced deep-water ports and the region's first semi-automated port. ICCDZ is made up of two Phases. Phase I is in KIZAD Free Zone (Area A) and with a total industrial area of 2.2 square kilometers; Phase II is in KIZAD non-Free Zone (Area B) and with a total industrial area of 10 square kilometers.
Phase I is structured as “1 Center and 4 Areas”, which includes 1 Business Service Center and 4 different industrial areas: Warehousing and Logistics, General Manufacturing and Processing, F&B Packaging and Processing, Metal Manufacturing and Processing. Meanwhile, Phase II offers comprehensive labor accommodation facilities, which covers an area of 75,000 square meters. and can accommodate up to 5,000 workers.
