The Chateau du Chatelard is situated in the heart of Crus du Beaujolais between Fleurie and Morgon (20kms South of Macon). Rebuilt during the 18th and the 19th centuries, the Chatelard is a “poype” (building situated on a hill and surrounded by ditches). Its arched caves are the only vestiges of its 12th century origins, destroyed by a fire. At that period of time, the abbaye of Tournus monks (Maconnais region) were shaping our terroirs and defining the parcels.
The vineyard and the winery were mainly established before 1955 and the 28 hectares of vines are set in beautiful rolling Beaujolais countryside. We are few to possess an rocky chalk-clay soil for the whites, explaining their finesse. This setting, through our careful production, is expressed in the bouquet and flavor of our wines. Furthermore, we do believe in integrated farming and grass cover of our parcels to preserve the soils and the biodiversity.
Nowadays the winery estate is now managed by Aurélie de Vermont. Born in the Beaujolais area, she is our winemaker and has been working in France and overseas during ten years. She is now totally involved in the day to day running of the estate with these 3 keys words : High standard, passion, patience.
