Charlotte Maxwell Clinic is a women's health clinic founded in Oakland in 1991, offering free integrative care to under-served, low-income women with cancer. For almost 30 years, CMC has been working to improve health outcomes and decrease health care disparities of hundreds of Bay Area women battling cancer and poverty. A corps of over 160 volunteer practitioners provides the integrative treatments which include acupuncture, herbal medicine, homeopathy, bodywork, guided imagery, movement, and nutritional therapies. These healing modalities have been shown to help the immune system recover from the harsh but necessary and life-saving treatments of Western medicine. Most importantly, these treatments generally are not known or not financially accessible to women who are low-income and uninsured.
