Centre for Health and Disability Assessments (CHDA) is a subsidiary of MAXIMUS, a leading global provider of government health programmes.
In the UK, CHDA carries out the Work Capability Assessments for the Health Assessment Advisory Service. We do this on behalf of Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
These assessments are designed to develop understanding of the specific impact an individual’s long-term illness or disability has on their ability to work. They are an integral part of the process for claiming for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
We work with people who have made a claim for ESA. We are often required to meet with them in person, to carry out assessments face-to-face. It’s our responsibility to explore each individual’s unique case - their needs, circumstances and capabilities.
We deliver this important work from a network of over 150 Assessment Centres across Great Britain. We report our findings to the DWP, who use the information to inform their decisions around individuals’ suitability for ESA.
Our Customer Charter also defines the way in which we work. We created it to ensure everyone is treated as an individual, with dignity and with respect.
