CMDN is based in Kathmandu Nepal and has focused in the area of health, wildlife and environmental research since 2007. In that time, it has carried out both internationally publicized research activities as well as nationally published research activities. CMDN has access to a privately run molecular diagnostic laboratory in Kathmandu owned by Intrepid Nepal Pvt Ltd for all biomedical research activities. CMDN has a working MOU with, and collaborated with, the Government of Nepal’s research unit, the Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC) in carrying out epidemiological assessment of 2009 diarrheal outbreak in Nepal. CMDN has formed strategic collaborations with both National and International partners including UNICEF (Avian Influenza in Nepal; HIV in street children of Kathmandu), Aga Khan University (HIV strain variation study), Harvard University (HIV in street children of Kathmandu), WWF-Nepal (genomic screening of selected endangered species), NHRC (diarrheal outbreak screening), National TB Center Nepal (molecular screening of tuberculosis in Nepal) to name a few. CMDN was asked to help in the management of communicable disease outbreak in Mid, and Far Western Nepal by Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) under Ministry of Health and Population, Government of Nepal to be monitored by WHO-Nepal in 2009 and also 2011. CMDN continues to work in the area of infectious disease surveillance, and especially regarding zoonotic outbreaks.
